Introducing LangFeed Meet: Video Calls With Live Transcription and Translation

Language apps are great at teaching you vocabulary. They’re terrible at teaching you to actually talk to another human being. You can memorize ten thousand flashcards and still freeze the moment someone asks you a question in real life.

That’s why we built LangFeed Meet — a video calling tool designed specifically for language exchange. Jump on a call with a partner, speak in your target language, and see every word you both say transcribed and translated live on screen.

How It Works

Head to the Meet section in your browser. Create a room and share the code with your language partner. Once they join, you’re connected with video and audio — just like any video call. But here’s where it gets interesting.

Tap the Talk button (or press Space) to record what you’re saying. When you stop, your speech is transcribed using OpenAI’s latest Whisper model and displayed as captions. Your partner sees your words appear on their screen in real time — both in the original language and translated into their language.

This means if you’re speaking Portuguese and your partner speaks English, they’ll see what you said in Portuguese with an English translation underneath. No more “wait, what did you say?” moments. No more pretending you understood when you didn’t.

TikTok-Style Captions on the Video

Captions don’t just appear in a sidebar. They’re overlaid directly on the video feed in bold, high-contrast text — the same style you see on TikTok and Instagram Reels. The original text appears in white, the translation in orange. It’s impossible to miss.

There’s also a full transcript panel on the side where every line of conversation is saved. You can scroll back through the entire conversation, see who said what, and delete any lines you don’t need.

Pick Your Language

A flag picker in the control bar lets you select the language you’re speaking. Whisper uses this to improve transcription accuracy. You can switch languages mid-call — speak Spanish for five minutes, then switch to French. The app adapts instantly.

If you’re not sure what language your partner is speaking, set it to Auto Detect and let Whisper figure it out.

Built for Real Conversations

LangFeed Meet isn’t a chatbot. It’s not a simulation. It’s a real video call with a real person. The transcription and translation are there to catch you when you fall — not to replace the experience of actually speaking.

The open rooms lobby lets you find language partners instantly. Create a room, and it appears in the public list for anyone to join. Or share your room code privately with a friend. Either way, you’re talking within seconds.

This is version one. We’re already working on scheduling (book a call with a partner for later), conversation prompts (AI-suggested topics to keep the conversation flowing), vocabulary extraction (automatically save new words from your conversations), and group calls for study circles.
